Storyline The Place Beyond the Pines

Luke (Ryan Gosling) får kendskab til, at han har en søn sammen med sin ekskæreste Romina (Eva Mendes), og i et desperat forsøg på at forsørge sin lille familie begår han en række bankrøverier. Det får Luke på kollisionskurs med den nyuddannede, ambitiøse politibetjent Avery Cross (Bradley Cooper), der stiler mod en fremtid som politiker. Mødet mellem de to får uforudsete konsekvenser, som giver genlyd 15 år senere og hjemsøger Luke og Averys teenagesønner.
